VINCORION Significantly Improves Sustainability Performance

Technology Company Achieves Above-Average Rating Despite Stricter Criteria.

The technology company improves its EcoVadis rating, demonstrating that defense and sustainability are not mutually exclusive.

Energy efficiency in manufacturing, fair working conditions, and ethical business practices: The Wedel-based technology company VINCORION is systematically investing in more sustainable business operations – with success. In the current assessment by the international sustainability platform EcoVadis, the company achieved the 79th percentile ranking, placing it significantly above the industry average.

Specifically, VINCORION was able to improve its EcoVadis rating from 61 to 66 points, earning a Bronze medal. The company, with approximately 900 employees at locations in Wedel, Altenstadt, and Essen, thus performs better than around 79 percent of all assessed companies in its industry. In the previous evaluation, it ranked at 77 percent.

“This recognition shows that we are on the right track despite continuously rising requirements for sustainability standards,” explains Astrid Biesterfeldt, Director Corporate Development at VINCORION. “Sustainability is a central pillar of our corporate strategy – both as an employer and as a technology supplier. The results prove that sustainable business practices and security technology are not contradictory. As a defense industry company, we have a special responsibility – both for Europe’s current security and for future generations.”

Improvements in All Four Assessment Areas

The EcoVadis assessment evaluates companies in four core areas: Environment, Labor & Human Rights, Ethics, and Sustainable Procurement. VINCORION was able to improve in all categories.

Ethics: In this area, the company now ranks among the top three percent of its industry. Particularly recognized was the new “Compliance System,” which represents a revised code of conduct. This includes adherence to anti-corruption regulations, risk mitigation, strict data protection, and information security. A new whistleblower system was also established within the company.

Labor & Human Rights: Here, VINCORION achieved a jump from 60 points (2024) to 68 points (2025). Notable features include flexible work organization through flextime and remote work options, comprehensive healthcare benefits, and particularly the new human and labor rights policy.

Environment: Safe disposal of hazardous materials, energy savings in manufacturing, and waste reduction through recycling enable VINCORION to improve from 60 to 63 points in this area. Starting in 2026, the company plans to switch completely to renewable energy.

Sustainable Procurement: VINCORION’s new “Supplier Code of Conduct” and supplier assessments resulted in an improvement from 40 to 48 points. The company plans to work even more strategically in this area going forward.

Sustainable Technology Development as a Separate Focus

Parallel to internal sustainability optimization, VINCORION is also developing sustainable technologies for its customers. “Of course, security is our top priority, flanked and supported by sustainability,” emphasizes Astrid Biesterfeldt.

As part of its “Green Defense” initiative, the company develops energy-efficient systems for defense applications, such as generators that reduce fuel consumption by up to 33 percent while simultaneously increasing operational capability. These technologies are increasingly finding applications in civilian use as well, demonstrating how technical innovation and environmental protection can work together.

Continuous Improvement with Concrete Goals

A dedicated Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Board coordinates VINCORION’s sustainability strategy. The cross-functional team develops and monitors specific measures. “Sustainability continues to evolve dynamically – the assessment criteria become more demanding year after year,” explains Biesterfeldt. “This makes it all the more important that we continuously work on all levers and actively involve our employees in the process.”

The company has set additional concrete goals for the coming years: “We want to develop even more specific targets in the environmental area,” explains Biesterfeldt, “and we’re also striving for further improvements in sustainable procurement.” The company is also conducting a comprehensive mobility survey at all German locations to identify additional optimization potential for commuting to work as well as business travel.

The improvements not only benefit the environment but also strengthen the company’s competitiveness in tenders. Sustainability is becoming an increasingly relevant evaluation criterion.
