During its mission in Afghanistan between 2001 and 2014, ISAF used 1.8 million gallons of fuel (6.8 million liters) per day for its equipment. At 100 to 400 USD per gallon, the daily costs added up to an exorbitant amount. For units on the ground, the complex task of protecting supply logistics poses another challenge – every soldier who has to protect an additional tanker is missing in other places. This is why VINCORION developed the most advanced hybrid genset for the world’s leading Patriot air defense system. The latest generation cuts fuel consumption and operating costs in half and doubles availability in operation. Because the system was developed in a close collaboration with our customers and end users, further tactical features were added, such as a grid connection with 400 Hz converter and UPS function with automatic switchover to autonomous generator operation

Supplying Peak Loads
By working with OEMs and users of our systems, we understand when, why, and how much power is needed. Conventional generators must always be designed for the maximum load – even if much less power is required over 90% of the time. These units then operate at underloads and consume an above-average amount of fuel, place high demands on the exhaust system, and lead to high maintenance costs.
Even the Patriot system’s launcher only needs full power for a short time. VINCORION’s new hybrid genset provides this peak load via an innovative peak power storage system made up of supercaps. In combination with a variable-speed diesel engine, efficient power electronics, and a cutting-edge user interface, it’s possible to achieve fuel savings of over 50%. In addition, the hybrid genset can be integrated directly into existing Patriot systems and can be connected to public power grids all over the world thanks to the built-in converter.
The hybrid genset’s outstanding performance and new tactical features are the result of our close collaboration with customers and their users. Extensive testing with the US Army has confirmed the superiority of the hybrid genset, and the extensive user feedback has been incorporated into the final series design.
