Since the deregulation of the rail market, specialized and small providers have been operating on the railways, especially in logistics transport. If the last stretch of track before a destination is not electrified, companies either need to use their own diesel or shunting locomotives or expensive shunting services from other suppliers. VINCORION’s auxiliary power unit (APU) for electric locomotives is a much more cost-effective solution. The APU reliably provides traction power independent of an overhead line. With this solution, we apply one of the basic principles that governs all of VINCORION’s activities: we develop an individual solution for each customer’s specific challenge on the basis of standardized platforms.

The success of logistics operations is often decided in the final few meters. VINCORION’s auxiliary power unit allows electric locomotives to switch from main routes with overhead lines to non-electrified branch lines. Integrating an genset with modern diesel engines and exhaust treatment systems into an existing locomotive platform is an engineering skill that we master. With our APU (auxiliary power unit), freight traffic can also reach non-electrified ports, mines, or industrial facilities. And as opposed to with a shunting locomotive, can do so seamlessly, rapidly, and without interruption. These benefits all help generate an above-average ROI.
